Ah yes. Soldier Field in December. There's nothing like it. From the north walkways that spin out in an arc, to the topiary globes and the sledding hill on the South end, there is really no stadium in football that can compare. Now, a team from warm-weather Houston will try to come in and disrupt the ambience. Unfortunately for them, it will be 10 degrees with a good chance of snow.
Don't expect many points here. Carr has been pedestrian at best lately, and the Bears, even without Urlacher, will focus on Dom Davis. Chicago's Cover-2 is a poor match for the Texans and their deep passing game, so success running the ball will be crucial. I don't see it. With the rough weather, Davis has an exponentially better chance of fumbling, he's lost 8 the last two years, and although Urlacher is out, Marcus Reese returns after a five week absence. Reese was viewed as the starter earlier in the year, and brings terrific athleticism to the LB corps. I would expect another poor offensive showing from the Texans.
Offensively, the Bears won't set the world on fire. The nice thing about Hutchinson though, is he shows nice mobility, enabling rollouts and bootlegs. Thomas Jones and A-Train catch the ball well out of the backfield, and the loss of Houston safety Marcus Coleman is big, as he played a John Lynch type role in run support. With the nasty weather, I would expect to see a successful day from Jones, enabling Hutchinson the opportunity to test rookie Dunta Robinson deep.
This is about defense though. When people see Urlacher is out they give up all hope for the Bears defense. But I was on the Bears two weeks ago when they shut down Culpepper and friends, and I see a similar result today, against a much less impressive offense.
